Co-Curriculum > Companionship Program

The College encourages active participation by both staff and students in a wide variety of community service activities. Participation raises awareness of the cause, and is a practical action in one's own sphere of life to work towards a greater justice for all.

Students from Years 9 to 11 attend placements in a wide variety of areas that include nursing homes and organisations assisting the disabled and the disadvantaged in the local and wider community. These initiatives provide opportunities for interaction and mutual support between our young women and those agencies offering welfare and support to members of our community.

Liturgy

Altar Serving is an activity open to any student from Years 6 to 12. There is one intake of new servers each year, who are then taught and trained by experienced senior altar servers. Students then serve on a roster basis at the College Eucharists.

Year 12 students who have trained at the end of Year 11 undertake Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist training. At the end of the training students are inducted as special ministers. This is an opportunity to serve our College community by assisting in the distribution of communion at our regular celebrations of the Eucharist.

Social Justice

A key goal of the Social Justice Committee is to make a contribution to establishing a more just society. This Committee endeavours to raise student awareness to some of the injustices both within Australia and overseas.

Across all year levels, some of the social justice activities have included co-ordinating a College response to:

  • Jesuit Refugee Service
  • Open Family
  • Opening the Doors Foundation
  • Simply Sharing Week
  • St Vincent de Paul Christmas hampers
