Genazzano FCJ College and Xavier College Musical

Legally Blonde

In the lead up to the announcement of the 2023 senior musical excitement and anticipation filled the corridors of the Wardell building as students eagerly debated whether the musical of choice would be ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Mamma Mia’ or even ‘Legally Blonde’. After a few years of more traditional choices (‘Calamity Jane’ in 2021 and ‘Guys and Dolls’ in 2020) the creative team finally decided on a more contemporary, fun, and upbeat musical and once auditions for ‘Legally Blonde’ were announced students commenced learning scenes, song, and choreography. Students from both Genazzano and Xavier College are to be commended for the dedication and commitment they made when preparing for their audition. In order to ensure that as many students as possible were given the opportunity to shine 68 students were cast.

Students received specialist vocal coaching before learning the choreography and finally the blocking for well-known hits such as ‘What You Want’, ‘So Much Better’ and ‘Bend and Snap’.

After the Christmas break the cast were buzzing with excitement and eager to begin rehearsing in the Eldon Hogan Performing Arts Centre (Xavier College Senior Campus) with an amazing set that featured a mechanical revolve. As the performance season commenced many of our Year 12 students become quite nostalgic as this would be for many of them their final production at the College.

The cast and creative team were delighted and very grateful to be able to enjoy the opportunity to share this energetic and uplifting musical with the College community.

The four performances were a resounding success. The audience were treated to a sensational display of talent and creativity, a testament to the students’ dedication and commitment to the performing arts.

Below a few students have shared their experience of being part of this year’s senior musical, ’Legally Blonde’.

Maysie Major 12D-2023 Genazzano Drama Prefect reflects on her participation….

“It was an absolute joy to participate in this amazing production which provided the students at Genazzano and Xavier College with many amazing opportunities on and off stage. I was fortunate enough to talk on the ‘Xav Chat’ podcast about the musical with Xavier Drama Prefect, Ed Roskam; and it was amazing to hear the community’s excitement and support for this spectacular production. Thank you to everyone who came to see the 2023 Genazzano and Xavier College production of ‘Legally Blonde’.

Christina Close 12E-reflects on the participation in her final Senior Musical at Genazzano….

The bond developed between the cast and crew of ‘Legally Blonde’ was truly special and one that will be cherished forever. The hours of work put into five months of rehearsals and the anticipation of production week created a show that was genuinely loved by all. ‘Legally Blonde’ was my last Genazzano and Xavier College Musical which led to many emotions, yet I could not be prouder of and more grateful for the incredibly talented people who I performed alongside. Thank you to all who supported us through this experience, our production of ‘Legally Blonde’ will be one to remember.
